DIY Milling Machine Part 7: Details, Aligning and Precision
Переглядів 20 тис.2 роки тому
Today I show all the small details that are not very obvious but also important for the milling machine to work properly. Like the reference switches, cable chains and so on. I will also show you how aligning everything works and do some measurements. The computer I use to run the control software is a Seeedstudio ODYSSEY X86J4125. DIY Milling Machine Part 6: T-Slot Machine Table and First Movements!
Переглядів 25 тис.3 роки тому
Today I show you how I made the T-Slot table. I made it in a different way so I don't have to use a T-Slot cutter. I also mounted the spindle extension concrete block. At the end you can see the first movements of the machine! DIY Milling Machine Part 2: Scraping the steel inlays for some extra precision!
Переглядів 41 тис.3 роки тому
In today’s video I show you how I corrected the accuracy issues of the steel inlays. I decided to scrape those because that is a very precise process and I do not have to move the parts out of the basement. After getting some practice I was able to get a pretty good result! Here is the channel from Alex (An Engineer's Findings) and his video about scraping steel: ua-cam.com/video/FgxjiEBhKvM/v-...
DIY Milling Machine Part 1: The base and concrete parts
Переглядів 92 тис.3 роки тому
Todays video is about the first steps of my DIY concrete milling machine. I made the concrete parts, surfaced the steel inlays and built the base frame. Everything looked fine until I assembled everything in the basement. But you will see in the video where the problem is. Thanks a lot to Sebastian to share the plans of his milling machine. This made the project a lot easier! You can find the y...
Workshop Update and New DIY milling machine project start
Переглядів 6 тис.4 роки тому
In this video I will show you the changes in my new workshop. The renovation is pretty much done. Now mainly the interior is missing and of course the milling machine and lathe. Lets talk about the milling machine. I won't move my old milling machine to the new workshop. Instead I will build a new one :) The old one will be sold when the new one is working. The new milling machine is inspired b...

Random Shop Stuff #1 Drawer Handle and Machine Feet
Переглядів 1,3 тис.5 років тому
Today I want to show you how I made some drawer handles and machine feet. The goal was to have the lowest possible material cost and still get a very good result. This video is made different than my normal videos. This two builds are not enough for a full video and this style of video saves me some time. Otherwise there wouldn't have been a video about that. No effects, no music and no talking...
How to measure with digital calipers
Переглядів 22 тис.5 років тому
In this video I want to show you how I can get good measurements with my digital calipers. I will cover measuring an outside dimension, an inside dimension and depth/height of a step. I tried to keep the video short but also mention everything that is important. I hope you like it and have fun watching it! One thing I want to notice so I don't have to answer that multiple times. Good sir - Your channel might not be very big for whatever reason, but I can truly appreciate the sheer level of talent and skill involved in what you've accomplished here and otherwise. Most people sadly aren't enlightened enough to comprehend just how freaking impressive this actually is in practice. Major props, subscribtion well earned.

Wow, this turned out amazing! VERY inspiring indeed. With all of the painstaking precision you put into this what kinds of parts and projects are you planning? OR was this the project in itself?

You've inspired me to build a concrete / epoxy granite CNC. I had a really crappy thing made out of wood that was more or less useless ("Bob's CNC"). I knew nothing about CNC when I bought the kit, no experience. I fiddled with that damn thing for days trying to carve a simple circuit board with big traces for a Tesla coil project. I ended up carving it by hand with a Dremel and it turned out better in 1/4 of the time I spent fiddling with the "cnc". I have been studying up on metrology, scraping lapping etc., and acquiring some decent starter tools. I just got a cheap chinese mini lathe, that will be my first project to improve to whatever accuracy I can get and learn from. I have a "Sieg" X2D mini mill from Little Machine Shop on the way to fiddle with for a while as well. I think these will be a good learning foundation and provide the ability to make some working parts and fixtures for a precision CNC milling machine later on. Then I can use that to create better parts for it, and then also build a concrete/ epoxy granite precision lathe. I make optical parts for my planetarium hobby and it's getting to the point where I need much more precision and I don't think I'll get lucky and have a used Haas VF-2 cross my path at anything I could possibly afford.

Hi Alex, a new video showing the accuracy/tolerances achievable with the machine is highly appreciated. Since the machine is now two years (or more) old and you used a UHPC, some information on shrinking/cracking/etc which is usually present in concrete based VMC's is very valuable to the community.

I am very interested in calipers and how to get accurate measurement of watch crystals. Experts recommend taking a few measurements to be sure. But if the arms of the caliper can only measure the diameter, then why aren't all the measurements exactly the same? (This question is because I am having difficulty with using the calipers.) Thanks!

Wow, finally someone talking about the leveling problems they are having, and how crazy it actually is to get these things corrected. Thank you for this video, as I am having the same problems with my lathe build, and all of the videos out there doing these builds make them look so simple, but it really isn't when it comes to the fine tuning and leveling... Huge pain in the ass!
